Apple Contests ITC Patent Ruling on Apple Watch Blood Oxygen Feature
Apple has filed an appeal against the US International Trade Commission (ITC) over its decision that the Apple Watch's blood oxygen measurement feature violates a Masimo patent. The ITC ruling, issued in October 2023, effectively halted the sale of Apple Watches with blood oxygen capabilities in the US.
In a comprehensive appeal document spanning over 900 pages, Apple challenges the ITC's findings. The company argues that Masimo, primarily known for medical pulse oximeters, lacked a genuine smartwatch when it filed the lawsuit.
Apple's appeal also addresses concerns about potential broad patent claims that could stifle innovation and hinder market growth across various device categories.
