TikTok Seeks Supreme Court Intervention to Halt Forced Sale
In a bold move, TikTok has filed an emergency petition to the U.S. Supreme Court, requesting a temporary halt to the government's order demanding its sale.
TikTok's attorneys argue that the directive not only violates the company's constitutional rights but also infringes upon the rights of its 170 million American users.
A federal appeals court has issued a deadline of January 19 for TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, to divest the video-sharing app or face a nationwide ban in the United States.
Former President Trump has previously expressed his reluctance to see TikTok banned, despite President Biden signing an executive order in April mandating its divestiture.
"It's very hard to ban something when people are using it for freedom of speech," Trump said, adding that "there's a lot of other things you have to consider" when it comes to the issue.
